How often should I clean my furniture?

After a long evening of entertaining friends and family at your holiday event, a nice glass of wine and a relaxing quiet time on your living furniture seems just about right. Ahh, there’s nothing like kicking up your feet and having self time. All of a sudden you notice a small food stain on the armrest of your sofa. It doesn’t bother you at first, but then you notice a watermark stain on one of the cushions. Still, its not so bad because you are not using these areas for now. Then as you continue to relax on your furniture you notice that your feet have left somewhat of a dirt stain on your furniture.
After realizing all of these stains an entire new question comes to mind. When was the last time that you had your furniture cleaned professionally? This question now opens your mind to new questions like, How dirty is my furniture really? If it looks fine to me, is it really necessary? What is the difference of me cleaning it myself and having a professional clean it? Why should I even try and spend any money on maintaining my furniture anyways?

These are all great and relevant questions that we all, at one time or another, have asked ourselves about our furniture. So where do we go for answers? The internet is a great and place to start of course but what are you looking for exactly? Do we want self help, do it yourself answers? Would we rather have someone else do it for us? These answers will vary from person to person of course, but a great to start would be to get information.
Why should I clean my furniture? Obviously this would be an easy answer for some. For others this can be a mind boggling question. Answers vary from, I barely use my furniture, to, I vacuum or self clean my furniture regularly from time to time. Although these are common sense reason to avoid cleaning your furniture regularly, they can also be damaging answers as well. Just like any piece of clothing or fabric, if not used often or hand washed, it still needs to be cleaned and laundered properly. Besides accumulating dust and stains, furniture can easily begin to wear away over time if not taken care of properly.
How often should I clean my furniture? Even if you vacuum or clean your furniture with the home steamer that you have, a professional cleaner can refresh and remove stains and dust much better than a vacuum or a steamer can. With a professional cleaning you can rest assured that your furniture is dust and allergen free. Over time, with regular use, furniture can attract dirt and stain from clothes and even produce color transfer from different colored clothes as well. Soon, before you know it, your sofa is starting to change colors in certain areas and you start to wonder if these are dirty areas or damaged areas.
No matter what questions you have about furniture maintenance or cleaning, EG Cleaning Chicago can help you find the right answers that you need. EG Cleaning provides regular cleaning methods and even special stain treatments that can ensure that your furniture will be looking better after each and every cleaning. So if there are any questions or concerns that you have about your sofa, armchairs, recliners or dining room chairs just give us a call at 773.455.5792 or visit us online at egcleaningchicago.com

Why should I clean my furniture?

Fresh out of high school, boarding at the college campus can be an amazing experience. New environment, new people and still having that old couch from mom and dad’s place kind of makes everything ok. Most college students don’t ask this, but when was the last time that this piece of furniture was cleaned professionally? Again, not the first question on a college student’s mind, but let us take another example.

New promotion means upgrading the living situation and moving into that new apartment. Everything seems to fit in just right and the move, of course, is never as smooth as you would like it to be. Nonetheless, there is still that one small detail that keeps screaming from the back of your mind, “When was the last time you had your furniture cleaned?”
This may be a hard question to answer, and an even bigger question is “Why should I even get it cleaned, when it doesn’t even look dirty?” EG Cleaning Chicago specializes in furniture cleaning and we will have more details on that in post that is up and coming next week so make sure that you stay tuned. BUT, in the mean time if you do have any questions about furniture cleaning you can always give us a call at 773.455.5792 or email us at egcleaningchicago@gmail.com or simply visit us online for FREE tips and tricks for everyday maintenance and cleaning.

Do pets hate carpets and furniture?

Have you noticed how pets who love to mark their territory tend to stain carpets even more? Im not sure what it is about pets but if you have the same pet in a home where there are hard floors instead of carpet, they don't leave as many stains. My sister who is a pet owner once lived in an apartment that was fully carpeted. It was a nice place and spacious home where her lovable dog Teddy could run and play. Just about every other week, my sister would call me up and tell me that she needed my help because Teddy would go on the carpet. Even though she was gone during the morning and afternoons, she would walk Teddy before and after leaving for work. She made sure that there was not too much water in the bowl in order to fill Teddy up too much. Still, every once in a while she would come home to a smelly surprise right in the middle of her bedroom.
One day she needed me to watch Teddy and so I brought him over to my place where there are no carpets. I have all hard floors in my home. Several days went by and there didn't seem to be any unexpected accidents from Teddy anywhere. So i began to wonder. One thing that caught my attention was that every time i would take Teddy out for his walks he would only go in the grassy areas. Whether it was a lawn, sidewalk grass area or even a bush, if there was no grass around, Teddy would not go. Then the question came to mind. Why do pets only go in grassy areas? So I went online but to no avail I didn’t find any information about that particular topic. I went back home and decided to lay down a piece of rug in the back porch for Teddy to sit and relax while he was home.
Sure enough after a few days, the small piece of carpet was spotted with Teddy stains. Then something came to mind that I did read online that made some sense. Dogs and Cats (especially cats) don't like feeling wet. If you haven’t noticed, every time a dog or cat come near to a body of standing water and get a small splash on them, they immediately start trying to shake it off. They can't stand getting splashed, what a surprise. This whole time I was thinking that pets have something against carpets of sofas or fabrics, when in fact they simply don't like getting wet. No matter where they are, they will do wait as long as they can before they go on the bare floor. Even when this happens they feel even worse about it because not only is the wet spot more visible, they, in the process, ended up wetting themselves as well.
So the next time your pet goes on the carpets or furniture, it doesn't mean that they hate your carpets or furniture. It simply means that they really needed to go and in order to avoid splashing themselves they rather go on an absorbent fabric which will keep them dry and absorb the stain as well. Thanks again for your time and attention. Don't forget if there is any pet stain that you are having trouble with, EG Cleaning Chicago is here to help and you can reach us at 773.455.5792 or visit us online at www.egcleaningchicago.com Have yourselves a beautiful day and see you on the next post.

How Often Should I Clean My Carpets?

Very often our customers, after they have a cleaning done, they ask, “How often, do you think, should I get my carpets cleaned?” With full sincerity I turn and look at my customer in the eye and respond with “How important is the environment that your pets and children play on to you to keep it clean?” Most of the time our customers quickly respond with “Oh, very important” or “I want it to always be clean for my family.” Usually it is also followed by schedules and routines on how often they vacuum and move furniture around and other things like that.
One thing that always seems to be missing from every response is, how committed and what they are doing to ensure that their carpets are regularly steamed and rinsed to prevent dust and allergen build up. Most homeowners are not very aware of the characteristics of a fully carpeted room and how it affects the breathing air in that particular home environment. According to Statista.com, there are an average of 15.74 Million people who live in a home that has installed carpeting in their home within the last year.
Most of the time, after buying carpet for their homes, homeowners tend to think that because the carpeting is new, it should be able to last at least 2-3years before it needs a cleaning. A lot of factors come into play with making that cleaning decision like, is the carpet in the living room, basement, bedroom, office or even just the hallway and stairs. If the consumer feels that there is very little to no traffic in the carpeted area then they will probably wait until about 3-4 years before they even consider getting a professional carpet cleaning.

The truth is, carpets love to attract and trap in just about anything that they can, including 6 month old cutie pies that have a hard time staying away from the floor. According to the American Lung Association, “Carpets may trap pollutants like dust mites, pet dander, cockroach allergens , particle pollution, lead, mold spores, pesticides, dirt and dust. Toxic gases in the air can adhere to small particles that settle into carpets.” So now, the question becomes, How much accumulation of the pesticides stated above are you willing to allow to build up in your carpet?
At EG Cleaning Chicago, we try and explain to our customers that any build up of 3 months and over can begin to prove harmful to family and pets. Not to mention the already existing complications of the family health that already exists. As much as some consumers may try and believe, Vacuuming is NOT a form of carpet cleaning. Although it helps with maintaining the carpet fibers from buckling, a True Deep Cleaning is always necessary beginning with at least every 3-6 months.
We always express to our customers the following:
Light traffic: If your carpet needs to be vacuumed once a week, you should have deep carpet cleaning every 12 to 18 months. Have restorative cleaning every two years.
Normal traffic: If you have kids, you should vacuum traffic areas once or twice a week and have your traffic areas treated every 6 to 12 months. Schedule restorative cleaning once a year.
Heavy traffic: If you have pets, smoke indoors, you should vacuum 2 to 4 times a week, and have your traffic areas deep cleaned every 3 to 6 months and restored twice a year.
Extreme traffic: Large families and multiple pets will require daily vacuuming a deep carpet cleaning every 2 to 3 months. Have restorative cleaning four times a year.
So the next time you are out picking out a good color that will match the wardrobe or bedroom set, make sure that you are also picking out the best time and date for that first cleaning within 3-6 months. EG Cleaning Chicago is always available and ready to take your call at 773.455.5792 in order to help keep and maintain your beautiful carpets cleaning and looking their best.
