Do pets hate carpets and furniture?

Have you noticed how pets who love to mark their territory tend to stain carpets even more? Im not sure what it is about pets but if you have the same pet in a home where there are hard floors instead of carpet, they don't leave as many stains. My sister who is a pet owner once lived in an apartment that was fully carpeted. It was a nice place and spacious home where her lovable dog Teddy could run and play. Just about every other week, my sister would call me up and tell me that she needed my help because Teddy would go on the carpet. Even though she was gone during the morning and afternoons, she would walk Teddy before and after leaving for work. She made sure that there was not too much water in the bowl in order to fill Teddy up too much. Still, every once in a while she would come home to a smelly surprise right in the middle of her bedroom.
One day she needed me to watch Teddy and so I brought him over to my place where there are no carpets. I have all hard floors in my home. Several days went by and there didn't seem to be any unexpected accidents from Teddy anywhere. So i began to wonder. One thing that caught my attention was that every time i would take Teddy out for his walks he would only go in the grassy areas. Whether it was a lawn, sidewalk grass area or even a bush, if there was no grass around, Teddy would not go. Then the question came to mind. Why do pets only go in grassy areas? So I went online but to no avail I didn’t find any information about that particular topic. I went back home and decided to lay down a piece of rug in the back porch for Teddy to sit and relax while he was home.
Sure enough after a few days, the small piece of carpet was spotted with Teddy stains. Then something came to mind that I did read online that made some sense. Dogs and Cats (especially cats) don't like feeling wet. If you haven’t noticed, every time a dog or cat come near to a body of standing water and get a small splash on them, they immediately start trying to shake it off. They can't stand getting splashed, what a surprise. This whole time I was thinking that pets have something against carpets of sofas or fabrics, when in fact they simply don't like getting wet. No matter where they are, they will do wait as long as they can before they go on the bare floor. Even when this happens they feel even worse about it because not only is the wet spot more visible, they, in the process, ended up wetting themselves as well.
So the next time your pet goes on the carpets or furniture, it doesn't mean that they hate your carpets or furniture. It simply means that they really needed to go and in order to avoid splashing themselves they rather go on an absorbent fabric which will keep them dry and absorb the stain as well. Thanks again for your time and attention.
