In
Chicago, most home owners have gone from a fully wall to wall carpeted home to
wood or laminate flooring. The time and cost that it takes to maintain carpet
is starting to go little by little for some. Even though carpeting can be comfortable,
the process for cleaning is still somewhat consuming. With a normal wood floor
and /or laminate floor you can simply sweep and mop now is taking over the
average residential home environment.
Nonetheless,
even with the transition from wall to wall carpeting to hard flooring is
happening more and more, the comfort of carpeting is still missing in a home.
With that in mind, residents are still finding themselves purchasing area rugs
to furnish their homes. To have that soft surface to step on, after a long day
of walking in shoes, feels amazing and definitely rewarding. But what are they
doing to maintain and ensure that their comfort flooring stays clean?
Most
residents don’t even realize that one actually needs to maintain an area rug.
Still, when you think about it, that area rug acts somewhat like a filter to
the air around it. As flowing air in the home moves around the room, dust
particles and potential allergens can become trapped in the carpet fibers.
Especially with long shag carpets, the area rug begins to act like a door mat
if not maintained properly. So what can you do to maintain a clean floor
carpet?
Vacuuming
regularly is always a good idea. Most area rugs require that you vacuum it at
least 1-2 times a week. Regular vacuuming can prevent from too much dust from accumulating
on the carpet surface. Vacuuming can also help prevent the carpet fibers from
buckling underneath the normal foot traffic that it can receive throughout the
day. If the carpet fibers begin to buckle, then this creates a whole other
problem that begins to harbor dust mites and potential allergens.
Although
even a regular vacuuming is good for maintaining any carpet, the deep cleaning
process is almost always required if one wants their area rug to have a long
lasting good look. Most consumers will turn to a cheap and affordable cleaning
process by renting a rug doctor machine or buying a retail carpet shampooer.
These machines will surely damage your carpet rather than doing any good. Think
of your vacuum suction power while soaking your carpet while harsh chemicals
that won’t get extracted very well.
The
ratio amount of water being deposited into your carpet versus what is actually
being extracted is about 3:1. Because the extracting source in the residential
vacuums are not very strong, most of the soapy water that is now in the carpet
is being left there to dry on top of the dirt and grime that was not removed.
This can be a new thriving home for potential allergens and other bacterial
creatures I am sure you do not want roaming around your family or pets.
